Apostolic Foot Washing
New Life U.P.C.I – Austin, Texas
Apostolic men partake in foot washing to keep with the example that Jesus Christ left for all believers. It may seem absurd that one would wash another persons feet, especially in this day and age when most of us here in the United States do not have to worry much about getting our feet dirty. One must realize that the Lord Jesus left this example for ALL Christians as a way for believers to practice humility.
Back during Jesus’s time there was always a servant who would perform foot washing on all who came into a home. Think about that for a second, people actually performed this ritual daily, this was one of the worst jobs anyone could have at that time. The humiliation, degradation & embarrassment of washing another persons feet is to much for some people to even bare, but at the same time Jesus saw this as an opportunity for believers to learn to humble themselves before others.
Apostolic believers do not debate this example with other Christians who do not practice foot washing; they simply just follow the Lord’s example. If Jesus himself practiced foot washing and left it as an example to be followed, how much more should we who were bought with his blood.
If I then, your Lord and Master, have washed your feet; ye also ought to wash one another’s feet. – John 13:14
